Advice for those who reply to Modelling Opportunity threads

We have recently heard from a member who applied for one of the occasional 'opportunities for models' threads on our forum and found it didn't go the way he had hoped and ended up out of pocket. Since we only know his side of the story we are NOT suggesting that anyone who advertises this sort of service on our forum is a crook but can we re-iterate the following guidelines for anyone male or female who is thinking of applying for this sort of 'work'.
1) If the advertiser is offering work for male or female models, he or she is obviously planning to upload any pictures/film to the internet and sell it. You should only apply if you are prepared for this to happen and photos to spread around on the net as they undoubtedly will. He/she should ask you to sign a release to this effect, though it can sometimes be a more casual arrangement.
2) If the advertiser is offering work for male or female models (as opposed to offering private sessions for them), then you as the 'model' should NOT be expected to pay for the gunge used, the location or anything else. On the contrary, a fee may be paid to the 'model' and possibly even travel expenses. This should be established and agreed before going to the shoot.
3) If, on the other hand, you have arranged a private session then you will be expected to pay for gunge, location and any other professional participant as well as your own expenses HOWEVER the photographer/filmmaker does not have the right to plaster your pictures over the internet or sell them without your consent. You should also have a say in what happens, not merely appear in something the photographer/filmmaker wants to shoot. All this should be established before attending the shoot.
4) If you have any doubts, DO NOT GO. But make sure you inform the filmmaker/photographer of your decision in plenty of time. Some people arranging private sessions will demand a deposit in advance to cover costs. Do not expect to get this back if you cancel at the last minute. If however you are being employed as as model/performer then you should not be expected to pay any sort of deposit at all (see No 2).
5) If you have any complaint about anyone who has advertised on our forum, please PM or email me and whilst I can't handle your complaint for you, we can try and prevent others from falling into that trap .
