People have written millions of words about meeting and dating members of the opposite sex!
A dating site is really just another way of meeting people, and perhaps someone special, although, as members are actively looking for dates, it's probably more effective than hanging around the pub or joining the local basketwork group in the hope of finding the right person!
I think that the common sense approach would be not to expect too much too soon....few people of either sex look like TV stars, I certainly don't, and you're not likely to meet a Girls Aloud look-alike who's ready to jump into bed or have a sploshing session on a first date! Take it easy, get to know someone, and accept that they (like most people) are probably as reticent as you are on a first meeting. I met my wife through a dating site about 5 years ago....first date wasn't anything special, but we met up again and gradually discovered common interests, realised that we'd both had similar bad experiences with our previous partners (basically getting married too soon after meeting!), and it all went right from there.
Just my humble opinions!
