Ken Russell, RIP
Sad to see that Ken Russell (film version of "Tommy", etc.) has died at 84. An innovation and original film-maker.
Re: Ken Russell, RIP
I'll second that.
He was a true genius and radical

Re: Ken Russell, RIP
He certainly was an excellent director in his time though he became a bit of a cantankerous old git in old age (so unlike me!!). His early arts films really were the first of their kind and I can't see anyone being allowed to do anything that radical these days. I may be wrong but he could be rather self indulgent and by the end I think he rather believed he was a genius and couldn't understand why people didn't want to show his material any more. Times change. But I think anyone who has ever made (or watched) a messy film would have been proud of making the Ann Margret scene from Tommy.
