Off topic forum?

Postby Smiley » 26 Oct 2006, 20:38

It's great to see so much action go on in this forum and i really love all the off topic banter, It seems to be going well here. I was wondering at this stage would an off topic forum be good here?.

Many thanks

i was thinking that myself, of course if its in a seperate off topic forum people might be less likely to see the stuff if they just come straight into the wam banter forum to see messy pics.

i *could* be wrong though. good suggestion :) think it'd be cool :)

I think an off-topic forum would be a good idea. It gives us a chance to find out more about each other and feel as if we know each other more - and that makes talking about WAM with each other all the more exciting for me.
Look, if you're all going to throw pies around would you mind throwing them at me!!!

As I recall, Hayley's argument against it beforehand was that it took away from the pub chat feel of the board. In a way I agree, so long as we can avoid taking the piss with starting threads about every little piece of trivia and stick O/T tags on the titles where appropriate it's just part of the vibe here - the great thing about this forum is that it isn't just a place to come looking for girlie pictures, it's about people.

There's a seperate room for stories, but as I understand it that's more about making them easier to find in the long term than it is about keeping them out of the main room.

Sorry wrong thread was looking for girly pictures....

No I do like the feel of the splosh site its a lot more laid back, its as though its one giant meet, I dont mind the off topics if all you do is talk about splosh all day it can get a bit tiresome.

I'm with Andy and most of you, by the sound of it. There are other sites (not just on this subject) in which there is an 'off topic' forum. I never think of going in there and I think most people don't. The randomness of this forum is what makes it fun. The odd bit of sploshing in between all the ramblings is nice to encounter but it does feel much more like a pub meet-up where you end up talking about all sorts of stuff simultaneously and learning much more about your fellow members than if you were restricted to just the matter in hand.

I'm glad this got raised again because Hayley and I were only talking about it last night.

Since she decided not to have a separate off-topic forum, there have been a lot more off topic threads which are interesting in their own right. We certainly don't want to discourage these, and maybe putting them in a forum of their own does this. But then again, does having threads about steam trains (that also includes cartoons and then Carrie) detract from the messy content?

We really would like your opinions as ours are not fixed at all.

Whatever happens we want off topic threads. it's just a question of where we put them.

Let us know.

Good question that Bill, I feel this forum is a lot more cherpy, and people seem to open up here more, umd is a classic people put photos on get 2000 hits and about 7 replies. At least hear people will chat about other things.

That reminds when are you going to make it easier to post piccys??

I love the way it's all jumbled up here and how each thread can go off on weird tangents. Although we all love splosh (that's why we're here after all), if we are confined to sploshing subjects it can get somewhat boring. I always read every thread when I log on because, even if I'm not particularly interested in the subject title, there's no knowing what interesting random lunacies will turn up. :D

Having the off-topic and the on-topic posts mixed together like this seems to work very well. It does make for a chatty, pub atmosphere, where any topic can - and does - come up.

Thanks Bill, it would appear i've killed Hayleys pc with the old pics from the sposh day shoot, have asked Hayley for a lesson, it also means less hassle for Hayley (dont wear out the blue satin yet Hayley, I've not got you too do Disastermind in it, or dating agency the choice is yours)
