OT: Royal Wedding Cynicism Thread

Postby BillShipton » 29 Apr 2011, 11:27

Hi

Just turned the Wedding off cos I couldn't take any more. If others feel the same way or have something amusing to point out about it, feel free to do so here.

Of the 20 mins I saw, couple of things came to mind.

How appropriate they gave the 1950s Phantom IV to Prince Charles - it too has been sitting around waiting to be useful for 60 years.

Even more appropriate that the Queen arrived in a new Bentley - a car that looks British but is actually German.

And as for the Royal Hangers On turning up in mini-buses...surely they could find something better than that - a nice 1960 open-topped Bristol Lodekka for example or Hastings' own Happy Harold, a vintage (now diesel-powered) open-top trolley bus.

Bill

PS If you want to make this on topic by saying which guests you most want to splosh, go ahead.

I can't help feeling the Scottish tradition of 'blackening' the bride would make for a vastly better event. Imagine Kate being pelted with muck as she is paraded around Central London the day before the wedding. The pompous commentary could be rather fun too. There would have be some kind of official title too - the Muckslinger General perhaps.

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, the Duke of Cambridge was a pub by Lewisham bus station.

I've been there!

The blackening idea is a good one too. Maybe one to do as a download!

I like the fact that today is actually Adolf and Eva's wedding anniversary ... but not a commemorative plate or plastic hat in sight!!

Somebody has obviously missed the opportunity to round up all those thousands of mentally unstable royalist spectators who have been camped out for 2 nights, sat in their own poo, singing Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory every 6-10 minutes. What a wonderful opportunity, while they are all sat there together, to get them out of the gene pool !!

Bah !!

PS - watched about 5 minutes before the gagging reflex began

But Bill, I think it totally fitting that the Queen rides in a line extension of the BMW 7 Series. Think about it.

Accckkkkk!

This is even more fitting: it's a stretched and pimped VW Phaeton!

Oh well, give me Kate any day. Kate Moss, of course.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking how good Pippa would look if she was gunged in that dress. :D

Didn't see most of the outfits as by then I was sitting on the beach reading Viz. I am sure there will be a million photos online to illustrate people's choices over the weekend.

That esteemed chronicler of Royal events, ZOO magazine (is this right? - Ed), has used Katie Green as a Kate Middleton lookalike this week. So I think I know which Splosh download I shall be revisiting tonight.....

I've not watched TV at all today! I have no interest in the wedding what so ever! I've been busy re-vamping my site, much more interesting!

Bill - And as for the Royal Hangers On turning up in mini-buses...

This was how it was explained to the Nobs -

"Mini-bus? What's a Mini-bus?"
"A Mini-bus is a mode of transport used by the Peasants to transport their Pigs and Sheep to market"
"Oh, gosh!"
"But don't worry, the mini-buses you are travelling in will have been cleaned and fumigated - there won't be any smell of Peasants!"
