To be honest, I'm pretty fed with UMD. It has had a lot of problems recently and it seems to be getting worse.
I'm not having a go, but it is getting a bit of a joke.

On a much happier note, I have 9 great new films coming out soon!

I have a recollection this subject has come up before but I can't now remember the reasoning that left things as the status quo.

With the more frequent interruptions to service at UMD, I wonder whether perhaps the time *has* come for a chat room here after all? It might also help to improve the number of UK people likely to chat.

(I rarely contribute to UMD these days as the level of hysteria against all things 'trans' had reached epidemic proportions a few years ago.)

You never know, a chat room might actually bring more people to the Splosh! site. Worth a policy review perhaps?

I know... I think the most annoying thing is the stupid small line at the top of the page saying 'check back in a few minutes'...

Well its been about 1440 minutes so far....

We would be happy to consider a chatroom.

Meanwhile, after our recent difficulties (now resolved) we are in no position to criticise UMD for crashing/maintainance!

On a personal note - does anyone have any more info on why UMD is down?

I've just bought a few films and my credit card details are no doubt stored somewhere on their server. Now if Sony's 77 million users can get hacked...

No I don't but I did notice that their 'hit' counter was buggered. According to that, my last post has 11 replies without anyone seeing it!

@Claymore

I agree.

@Jessie

Isn't Bill totally cool? As are you.

I wonder if UMD was hacked? (They are still down as I write this.) I suppose that something could have gone wrong during the repair and maintenance cycle. Doubtful the horrible storms had anything to with this.

At least the DJ on the radio is playing Thelonius Monk

As far as I am aware there has been some issues with the SQL database. I have not been able to get an update as neither myself or Middy could get hold of Derek on AIM last night.

In answer to other criticisms one of the reasons UMD has had some difficulties recently has been down to attempts to change and adapt the site in answer to members requests for new or improved features as well as improving security concerning spam bots as unfortunately UMD now having close on 30,000 members has become a victim of its own success.
Concerning any issues over security of CC information it is entirely handled by a third party merchant site who conform to all PCI DSS regulations at the highest level and no member of UMD staff has any access to it themselves.
Thirdly with reference to the comments concerning the rise in seemingly aggressive behaviour on the forums well this is down to several reasons firstly because of the members requesting that in future anything deemed controversial not be removed but rather be left for public scrutiny as well as a increase in producers using unacceptable practice to help them promote their work or more specifically using secondary accounts to appear as regular users and one practice we consider to be particularly unacceptable which is models account be operated by other people or more specifically male producers to post on the forum or chat in the room. Messmaster prides himself as do the mods on operating a fair and equal policy towards all users whether they be producers or not and that when a user uses UMD he may feel safe and secure in the knowledge that the person they reply to on a thread in a private message or within the chat room is in fact that person and only that person and not their producer posing as them as we consider this a particularly unacceptable practice as it acts in many case to entice the user, having had a personal message or reply from a model to feel more inclined to purchase their work feeling they have made some personal connection with them and I can assure you that in future forums other than UMD may be your only option to purchase or communicate with some producers as they will be warned and then banned altogether if they persist.
In finishing off I am surprised to hear that some here consider the chat room under populated by UK members as they are without a doubt one of the highest contingents, not only is the chat room is more popular than ever now as a very high number of highly regarded producers and models now frequent the room safe in the knowledge that through the hard work of the mods the majority of trolls and posers now longer have safe haven there and that members can expect to be treated with respect by others. As well as this development is continuing to bring a new and improved chat room to UMD.
So all I ask is that you have some patience at this time and hopefully normal service will be resumed soon.
Please remember cash is not king on UMD the members are always the first and foremost consideration, I was there when it started over 15 years ago as a place people with a love of WAM could discuss and debate freely and it continues to be so to this day

I think I have noticed a few 'real people' who do nothing but bump certain producers' posts here too!

Just want to thank Jonn for keeping us up to date. Two outages of over a day, in less than a week, are pretty alarming. I'm glad we have an alternative here to migrate to if the UMD becomes unreliable.
