Carry On Loving Pie Fight Facts

Hi
Who says the Government cutbacks are a bad idea (well, me for a start)? However the partial closure of Bexhill Library means they are selling off lots of books cheap and even giving some away. One of the latter was 50 Years of Carry On released in 2008 which needless to say I snapped up. Amongst many anecdotes and statistics, it reveals some interesting facts about the pie fight at the end of Carry On Loving.
Apparently the scene took three days to film (it lasts about 4 mins!) and they used 200 pies made of real whipped cream on sponge bases. Unfortunately, the set had to be left every night the way it was for continuity purposes so by Day 3 the stink was terrible! Patsy Rowlands who has her face pushed into a cake had to do it 10 times and says it has put her off cream for life. By the end in the "mayhem" shots, everyone got hit because the cast used it as an excuse to get their own back on the crew who were paid more than they were!
To see the scene click here.
Will let you know if any other slapstick stats come up in the book.

PS I personally like the Hattie/Sid champagne gags in this cos her expression is so good.
