LONDON MEET - Another storming success !

Well, here we go again !

A good night in an unusually packed, though smallish pub ( while I was chatting to the barmaid she told me it had been very quiet all week ! ) . . . .
. . . we bagged a table eventually and here is a list of who we had sitting around it . . . .

I cannot type much more now as I really do ghave a hangover . . . . .
. . . . a real one, not one of those comedy hangovers that get referred to . . . .
. . . I do hope I haven't left anyone off the list . . . apologies if so but I think it is all there.....

In addition we found a late drink in a bar called Warwicks just along from the pub . . . and that is where I found my hangover !

Gah . . . . . good now the kettle's boiled,
now I can stop typing and make beautiful, strong, sweet, hot white coffee . . .

I too have just about recovered from the night in Soho, got back to Manchester about 13:00 today.

I had a blast last night, everybody was so welcoming it was all most un-real, I got their for about 7;15 after James phoned but I never heard the phone ring!!! Once i found everybody, it was unreal before we knew it we where moving down the road, to a pub/club, I now wish I'd stayed later but was too knackered.

Easy as, is a star, he made me feel really welcome to the group and took the time to introduce me to everybody most I knew, though had never actually met. Then the beers started flowing and Mel popped in who I have not seen since February, that was good.

Met James, Gs, Bobby/Laura, Driversoft, and Leon and his good lady, wamadeus, Sploshman(on the wheels of steel!!!) and many more good people. I really enjoyed myself and was stated this is a social event and not where people are running round the room with custard etc.

Before we knew it was last orders so we moved down the road, I only stayed for one, now wish I'd stayed longer.

For anybody who is worried about going to meet hosted by Easy as, and co, I can recommend it, though was a bit worse for wair on the train coming back???? wonder why that was.

Would I go again???? finances permitting Deffo, it a bit of treck for me, but if Wamadeus can do it, so can I.

Their are too many highlights to talk about, one of the funniest bits was Easy as, trying to guess the names of Austrian no1 in great Britian, as quoted by Wamadeus, that had me in stiches.

Thanks again to everybody involved in putting these meets together, its gone through a rough phase but has deffo come out the other side better.

Glad it went well and sorry to have missed it. I admit the politics put me off a bit. Didn't do aything else wild...though this weekend with Hay down and a silly 70s gig to go tomorrow to (those 5 inch high boots again) looks promising!

Think the idea of 'dress-as-you-ike' meets down here is a good one. Talking to venues now.

Its a shame it put you off Bill, on the day and night everything went really well, both James and Easy as where ultra helpful, Bobby is a really nice the person is a tad loud but how else do you make an entrance, when we where chatting I had really nice time. Have thought would love to take some pics sometime, maybe next year. I nearly pm'ed you too see if anything had put you off.

It was only today when I read the other thread about you sitting in the pub and miding your own business, that it all clicked into place, (we're not the brightest star in the sky up here we are northern!!!! 3.20 for a bootle of budweiser in London now that is a scandle sorry gone off the plot.)

Please don't let it put anybody off we all had a great time, and I made some fantastic new friends..

I thought the night was as good as it has ever been, although its my first one back for over a year, it was really good to see old faces again, when i say old i dont mean .........
To anyone who though i was being vague or not getting what they said, i couldn't hear a danm thing in the crown as there was a speaker right above us, and i have been a panel beater for 20 odd years so my hearing aint its best un less i got my goggles on
I wanted to get there early to try and meet the first commers but i had to make a "stage change" to be there as Bobby so i got there later that i wanted, although i know "laura" would have kept dashing out into the rain most off the night
but yeah it was ok, good to meet new faces too

maybe a slightly larger and quiter venue for the first half meet so we can chat proper? then onto a place such as the second one?

also i still think a summer meet in hyde parlk next year would be great.

This was already thought of but not wanting to cause confusion for a meet organised so far in advance, we kept the details the same.

And the volume issue is that with space not sound,
being stuck under a speaker in a crowded pub where the rule seems to be to drown out the conversation at all costs,
a crowded pub like this night was, will always end in it being a nightclub not a pub.

Anyway research is afoot for the next meet to source out a pub that is larger and then we won't get shoved under a speaker.
Quieter, hopefully by definition, but not with no atmosphere !

There is a pub, not far from Charing Cross stn which has an upstairs room which is quiet and I'm sure could be used for the night with a bit of arrangement. I think it is called The Marquis (not the one in Covent Garden) and just down from a smaller pub called The Harp. I used to meet Liz the editor of Forum there and some of the Paul Raymond guys in my porn past.

I enjoyed the meet a lot. Shame i got down there so late as i was handling other business.

Nice to see a lot of old faces again and nice meeting Andy and a few nu ones too (sory i forgot your names).

Roll on the next one and less petty squabbling next tyme as it's definatley not needed and seems so small when we all were in the same place having a good time and laff.

I think that could not be put any better, once we where all together eberything that happened on any of the threads seemed so far away. People where happy to be together with something in common.

Like I said before your daft if you let anything put you off from these meets.

Wamadeus I am still trying to work out that card trick from driversoft, I tried yesterday got one side completley right, the other side was all mixed up?????

Arggh - I want to see one of Driversoft's card tricks. I must have heard 5 or 6 people going on about them now.

I know two - and only two - decent card tricks. They're both the sort that have people going "do it again. do it again". I always give in and do it again ... then they spot how it's done!!

Driversoft ... can you film some of your card tricks and put them on youtube or something?
