Buying photosets?

Postby Messy Photo Shoots » 07 Jul 2009, 15:54

A little while back I posted this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4755
which showed some images I took durring a photo session with a local model. Firstly thank you to everyone who has posted posted feedback on the images.

Secondly and the main reason for posting now. I'd like to ask those people who run their own WAM related websites whether they would ever consider buying in photosets, or hiring a photographer to take photos for their websites. For example it might prove more cost effective to hire a photographer in the same area that the models live in than to pay the travel costs etc for the model. Or might be interesting to have some images shot in a slightly different style to complement the regualar content.

As a professional photographer I have enjoyed taking the wet and messy images that I have done, I would like to do more. And I potentially have a couple of models wanting to shoot a pie fight and another pair interested in doing a food fight. But as a professional I need to find a market for them. I have absolutly no desire to to set-up and run my own website for them. However syndicating and selling them to other websites does have an appeal. So if any website owners are interested in buying images, please send me a PM, and we can discuss this further.

Ok, you've read the sales pitch, so here's some eye candy....! ;-)

Now this is a good question.

We've had several photographers all do shoots for us, and have said at the end, bloody ell!! it was all too quick.

The reason is its not a still's shoot. Its for download, if you want to come and have a go at one of shoots in Manchester. You are more than
welcome to visit, pm me. Rob of Photonova has been with, I must say his photography on the Big Wamtastic house, is second to none. Though his
camera was so powerful it interfeared with the hd cam Jammed was operating. Even Rob with his skill commented on how fast everything moves along. Plus as a photographer you are looking for that one shot, the eyecatcher.

Plus then you have the problem of the producer wanting the photos withing 5 days so he can go live with his/her product.

regards

Hi Andy,
Thanks for both the information and the invite. As suggested I've sent you a PM.

Hi

Would be happy to talk about this. We don't do everything in a furious rush and our material is a lot more choreographed than some so would suit your style. Nor do we try and shoot both stills and video at the same time as they are two different disciplines.

Not sure how popular stills sets to download would be, perhaps people out there could tell us if they would pay for high quality downloadable still images?

Before I go any further I have a question ask Ian,

Why are you intrested in selling wam sets, when its completely obvious, you will make a lot more money, carrying on doing what you are doing. The packages on your website for weddings alone, two of those a month and myself and Bill wouldn't need to produce downloads??

The only way I could see a shoot being done in your style would be to do a doco about the actual event including the pie fight etc. Though the shoot would be very staggered as it would need to be shot more in Bills style, ie the same way he use to do the mag. Though there is no way you will get the kind of returns you are getting from your other work.

If your still intrested and are about on the 19th of this month. Might be able to squeeze you onto set in Mcr to have a look, if its something you want proceed with. Though be warned your certainly will not retire off it.

Andy,

If I had two weddings a month to shoot then financially I'd be very happy. Not had a single booking for a wedding for over a year. :-( Not a good time to be a photographer. So when there was possitive interest in the messy images I'd taken I thought I'd see if there was any way I could earn something from that type of photography. I'm a realist not expecting to retire on the kind of income it will generate. But these days as a photographer the aim is to get a little bit of income from lots of different areas and hope that it all adds up to be enough to pay the bills.

As to style - the images you have seen are all posed shots and that has been the style that I believe works best for a stills only shoot. However when a video is going, yes you can do the stop/start approach, alternatively you can treat the whole thing as a performance. And photograph it that way, capture the action as it happens. Yes it is tricky, and yes the style would be different but it is not impossible.

As to the 19th I'd love to come, but I have got another shoot on that day, so it would all be down to what time your shoot is.

Thanks again for the reply,
Ian.
