.
Following the huge success of the last London Meet and after many requests for another meet.

We bring you the March 2009 London Meet which is our 5th anniversary! :D :) :D :)

The Date: THURSDAY THE 5TH OF MARCH.
Start Time: 5PM TIL LATE.
The Location: THE PENDERELS OAK, HOLBORN, WC1.
Contact Number: 07984 886 085

To help find the right group quickly look for an Easter egg on the centre of the table along with a birthday card. We will be at the location from around 4.30pm to secure our table and grab a bite to eat so if your running early why not join us. If you can't find us call the London Meet mobile on 07984 886 085 and we will find you and bring you over to the group. 8)

The full address for the meet is The Penderels Oak, 283-288 High Holborn, WC1V 7HP. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=WC1V%207HP .The nearest tube stations are Holborn on the Central and Piccadilly lines or Chancery Lane on the Central line. There is also a wide selection of buses to choose from, serving near and far in all directions. Here are two links to plan your journey from within London or from outside of London, http://www.journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk and http://www.nationalrail.co.uk

If you need anymore help please call the London Meet mobile on 07984 886 085 or e-mail us londonmeet@hotmail.co.uk
:D :) 8)

The Penderels Oak is nice and big and has two bars (one on street level and another basement bar downstairs). We will be located in the main upstairs bar and as near to the main entrance as we can be. When you enter the main door there are some tables directly ahead in the corner and we aim to be in or close to that area.

After almost five years ( and to prove easy_as_ has more than one shirt !) we will be scrapping the Hendrix and Smiley face shirts. We have made this decision as we feel it attracts too much attention from others in the pub, which we would like to avoid. We would ask you to consider what you wear as this meet is a vanilla meeting. Keep an eye out for our seasonal items which we will place on the table at each meet to help you find the group or if you get stuck call the mobile.

WHAT IS A LONDON MEET :?:

The London Meet is for people from the wam community to meet other fellow wammers in person and put faces to the names. It is about having a few drinks, building trust and friendships and generally getting to know each other a little better in real life. It has been, in fact, a springboard to arrange other meets and events as a result. The discussions will not always be wam, plenty of other general chitter-chatter goes on too, so feel free to talk about anything you like ! It is also a great place to offer your services, promote your content, buy and sell wam stuff and have fun ! :D :) :D :)

The pub serves a very good selection of ales, wines, beers and spirits. In addition there is also a wide range of soft drinks on offer to go with the 'pub grub menu' and Thursday night is curry night ! The pub has a late license so it does not close till 1am, meaning more flexibility on when you want to leave.

I'M NOT FROM LONDON CAN I COME :?:

Anyone and everyone who wants to come is invited, so come along ! ! ! The London Meet is open to all, we have had many people come a long way from far and wide to be there.

LONDON AGAIN :!: WHY :?:

' Meets ' happen in London because it suits wammers living in or near London but it also suits people coming from the NW, NE, SE and even SW of England. Those that have travelled down, along or up to London, often combine business or leisure with the trip. For example some people have done shopping while others have gone to the theatre - not that it is for us to tell you what to do. 8)

London is an easy place to commute to with great transport links.

The 'London Meet' is fairly well established now and has a regular core group of people who attend. It would make no sense for us to organize get-togethers in different places. The great news is these days lots more action is happening outside London, such as Bristol and Warrington, so currently you have three active 'Meets' to choose from. Other areas are planning 'Meets' too, look out for your nearest gathering !!! Or organize one ! ! !

THINKING OF STAYING OVER IN LONDON :?:

Check out http://www.travelodge.co.uk you should mostly find a cheap-ish room if you book in advance, Kings Cross Royal Scott is going cheaply at the moment among others near by (Smiley has booked Kings Cross Royal Scott for this meet, so why not join the club.) Other London Meet regulars also like to book the Imperial hotel in London (http://www.imperialhotels.co.uk)

Well that’s it - pop your name on the list if you want to come along.

Any questions please drop us a pm, if you need any more information or help then please do not hesitate to call the London Meet number on 07984 886 085 or e-mail us londonmeet@hotmail.co.uk

See you there !

I'll be there (barring total financial breakdown or strikes on SouthWest Trains :( ).

Well, there's a challenge - I'll have to see what super-sticky mud spots I can find, without compromising her safety.

Hi Candy, hope you are well. The Thursday thing is a good point, i hope the below will explain why we go for mostly Thursdays, sorry if it seems i am bombarding you with info but it's good for others who often make the point to read over too.:D

We did try a Saturday a couple of times before but it was no where near successful as our Thursday meets, mostly because most people who attend the meet are popping in after work who are already in the London area and they don't need to explain the evening absence to loved ones at home either.

The last Saturday meet we done in Nov 2006 only attracted 13 people, compared to an average of 30 on the Thursday nights we have been doing in 2007 and 2008.

Doing a London meet at the weekend would mean pretty much being out of action the best part of the weekend, not as easy to explain to family why you are away lol.

Also many engineering works occur at weekends in London on the trains.

Doing a Thursday night means most people only have just one day to suffer at work on Friday.

The good news is Bristol and Warrington both go for a Saturday so all is not lost (But it's good to offer an alternative night in London to give everyone a chance of being able to attend one of the UK meets). Central London just seems to be a week night city and the vibe is really there on a Thursday night. :D

Hope this helps.

Cheers

J

Two things !

Firstly, don't try to frig London, as anyone who has read a history of London will know, it can't be done - are you talking about in the coital or the onanistic capacity ? Heh, not that it matters, neither is possible.
It is in the same way that I wouldn't try to frig a cocker-knee wideboy, not unless you are looking for a bunch of fives up your bracket . . . and that is not a reference to fisting !!!!!!

Hehehe . . . In anycase, I am sure there are plenty of things to frig down your neck of the woods, or maybe even fields and pastures ( given that we have an al fresco feel to the sentence ), instead !

Secondly, lest I misconstrudled you, there are cocker-knee narrowboys available too if that is closer to what you are looking for ! Obviously you will have to look harder for them ( I don't mean look tougher or more macho ) since they are, by nature, thinner although sometimes taller . . . . . !!!!!!!!

Catch you soon, no doubt !

Right, I'm not going to jinx it this time, by saying I can / can't make it anywhere near this early ;)

I really want to be there though, it's about time (although I've met some of you socially by other means) - and I'm sure some of you don't think I really exist....

I'm waiting for the Warrington Meet up to be announced as its nearer my neck of the woods. If Warrington is a none starter then I'll really try to make my way down there as I feel I'm missing out.

Good luck to the London Meet if I can't make it hope it all goes well :D
