Hi all,

You know how sometimes you say "Oh sh1t - what have I done" about 0.1 seconds after you hit 'send' on an e-mail, then breathe a sigh of relief when you realise it was ok .... well last night, I didn't get the chance to breathe after I realised I'd e-mailed someone I shouldn't have from my 'sploshing' persona e-mail account! Panic! ... especially as this guy uses Google spectacularly well, including the cached pages.

Now, for some of you, it's not a problem and I envy your freedom. However, in some jobs, you can't be seen to deviate from the norm, so many of us have to keep this sort of thing under wraps.

I'm surprised at just how astonishingly good Google is at finding all my profiles, my website and loads of posts on here, UMD and elsewhere so I've been busy pulling as much off as possible. Pup has kindly changed my username. (I can't imagine why pup thought of the name "ILikeTights" for me, LoL!) ;-) In case you're wondering who this is, the username that I can't quote directly (as Google will dig it out yet again!) was what a posh person in the 1940s would have referred to Cleymore_wem!

Of course, if I hadn't signed the e-mail, thinking I was in my 'normal' e-mail, it wouldn't be a problem! Likewise if my e-mail name hadn't been a full version of my sploshing persona name (allowing the connection to be made), so I've now changed that to just C_W.

My main hope now is that he saw the username, assumed the message was spam and deleted it without opening it! Of course, I can't ask him whether he did!

Bugger, bugger, bugger, bugger!!!!

Possible explanations in case he gets back to you...

"I was emailing from a friend's computer, and didn't check which window I was using."

"My mates down the pub were playing a prank on me. They checked wikipedia for some fetish sites, created a virtual fetish character C_W, set up an email account C_W@x.com and then emailed loads of people with this account, adding my name at the bottom. Bastards"

I hope that this goes well, and that you can look back and laugh at it one day.

Been there, done that! My friend forwarded it to my 'real' address saying, "err is this from you?"

I just said "yes, how the hell did it come from that address?" and blamed my ISP (they suck, so he bought it). Don't think he googled that identity (not a huge amount shows up anyway), and it's long enough ago that I doubt he'll see this message, put two and two together :)

Now I have a separate login on the PC, so my 'fetish' account's email client doesn't even know who any of my 'vanilla' friends are - and vice versa. Same for logins to Facebook, Flickr and so on - last thing you want to do is accidentally post a messy youtube video with a comment 'so damn horny' to all your work colleagues!

Thanks guys - there's some good ideas there, though one main snag is the retention of all the info and, particularly, the profile pics in Google's cache.

If you don't know me then that profile pic was effectively anonymous as my face wasn't shown. However, if you do know me, you can easily tell it's me from the pic - I'm not an average size and shape, so quite easily identifiable (and there's enough circumstantial evidence in the posts and text too).

I've kept separate logins for things like Facebook but I'll have to get round to setting up separate profiles on Thunderbird - it's a bit of a pain to have to keep logging in and out though it does save this sort of hassle!

Well, I've not heard back from him yet ... though that doesn't mean he hasn't seen it - he could just be keeping quiet about it, for now!
