WAM meeting Europe

Postby wamtube » 12 Sep 2008, 04:03

I was wondering, has there ever been a WAM meeting in Europe, outside the UK? Would there be any interest in an European meeting in let's say Amsterdam, Berlin or Paris?

Sounds like a good idea. But it will take plenty of planning.

I know Berlin really well (used to live there) so could lend a hand were that to be the venue.

I suspect this would be difficult to pull off - unless it was primarily for the benefit of the native host country. It would be hard to justify the expense of travelling to such a meet from non-native countries, presumably with the added requirement of at least two nights accommodation. So, unless there was some additional reason for travelling, I can't see many takers - nor can I envisage a European location that everyone would want to visit.

Still, someone could try and prove me wrong.
It wasn't that long ago that I'd punch someone in the face when they pissed me off; now I just delete them from Facebook - that'll show the mother-fuckers...

I would likely afford a low cost air trip and a couple of night in a budget hotel, if that could lead to a messy session.
Main reason because I never got at splunch or similar meeting is that I am not fluent in spoken English. Knowing that i would be among people for whose English is their second or third language would make me sure about my English and, hey, why not get into conversations ?
Another reason to cross Europe for a Splosh meeting, but this is different from country to country, is that in my country (Italy) hotels are overwhelming expensive.
I know that I can sleep, at least in Berlin and Amsterdam, in pretty decent hotel for less than the half of the ugliest, dirtiest, secluded hotel in my homecity. As far as I know, only in UK hotels are even more expensive than in Italy. And most of times, budget UK hotels doesn't even feature private shower, a need after a messy session.

So, if anyone want to set up an European WAM meeting, I could be at that meeting.

Another idea: why not make a mud meeting based on an organized muddy event, like Reding festival or Rock Otocec ?

lets aim to make this a olympic sport, this may take time though.
the thing is to come out of the shadoes & meet others!

Not the best timing, given the £/€ exchange rate!

My tip would be to host it in Amsterdam because communication links are good and if there's no actual Sploshing, the city has a lot of other attractions (to put it mildly).

Twice a year we organize the "Wasser-Ball" (www.wasser-ball.net) wich is a wetlook-event at an indoor pool in Northern Germany dedicated for couples who love getting wet in formalwear. The people who visit this event come from The Netherlands, the UK, Denmark, Norway, France and - of course - Germany. So this already is kind of a European WAM-meet (as long as you stress the "W" in "WAM"). I already have organized a similar meet for couples who are in muddy fun but I had to cancel and delay it 5 times (!!) due to a lack of interest. But I could imagine to try this again if you could come to Hamburg, wich rather easily can be reached for people from the UK, Skandinavia, Poland, Benelux etc. In the Hamburg area there are beautiful mud flats at low tide of River Elbe, nice ditches with deep black peet-like mud and I even could arrange a place for a nice indoor-piefight.
