WAM t-shirts

Postby TottyMcGee » 02 May 2006, 15:40

Chatting with GungeSlut over on the Wamdrogony board about her "Wine me, dine me, SLIME ME!" sig, we got talking about t-shirt slogans and the need to have that fine slogan printed on a t-shirt to join her "Wet, Wild and Willing" one, and needing something to do with my hands while watching the snooker I fired up photoshop and knocked up the below image.

Anyhow, what we were pondering was, wouldn't it be cool to set up a site or sticky forum thread for people to submit WAM t-shirt designs that anyone wanting to make a sploshy fashion statement (for example to wear to a WAM munch or messy meet) can print out on to a t-shirt transfer.

I'm happy to submit this sort of thing on an amusement-only basis because I can't see there being a large enough customer base of people with the guts to wear these out to make it worth getting them made properly (also I can't be arsed with the technical details of setting out proper designs for screen-printing, keeping to a minimal colour scheme and so forth), but it'll be a laugh brainstorming ideas and finding out if anyone does print them out and wear them.

I could set up a sticky thread on the Wamdrogony board (we have the advantage that users can upload images there easily), but as this is a more general WAM thing than the transgender WAM side we focus on it'd be better off either here or on UMD. If there's enough interest/contributions I could easily enough set up a subsite to display the designs along with instructions and hints on how to get the best results getting them on to clothing.

Hi

Bill and I are the only two owners of SPLOSH! teeshirts which have the logo, our website address and the line "I get custardy at weekends" line on it.

We would be happy to produce teeshirts if anyone would be interested in wearing them. We know several teeshirt printers well as Bill does some PR work for his local pub (no, not just drinking in it!) and Hastings Rock radio station.

I like the idea of downloadable designs as well.

Feel free to submit them and we'll STICKY the post if there are enough or put it on the site itself.

Hello,

Ive seen some on the pics and i do like the idea, id like to have a splosh t -shirt, and id love to see lots of cool designs made up.

Maybe something half way there could be good - something not to obvious but yet can be worn either at wam meets or even just on a normal day.

Ive looked into this kind of thing before as it goes, i know alot of site will do them for you for about a tenner, does anyone know any good sites to submit these pics to be printed?.

look forward to seeing how this one turns out.
Cheers
J

My experience of getting shirts done properly is from the merchandise we sell of the band I'm in (which I won't plug here because I like to keep band business seperate from my 'other' endeavours), t-shirts are the hardest item of merchandise to make a good profit on - the costs of screen printing leave a pretty slim profit margin so you have to sell a lot, and it's not a cost efficient way of doing small quantities. I've seen laser printing advertised as a solution for one-offs and small quantities, but the prices still aren't good enough to make it an attractive business proposition to get a load printed off to try and sell.

Which is why I like the idea of supplying the graphics and letting people get them printed themselves if they so desire, either by using the aforementioned companies or alternatively you can easily get cheap iron-on transfer media that will work in any inkjet printer. While they don't last forever I've had good results from using them in the past, with the added advantage that you aren't limited to two or three colours as you are when screen printing.

Does anyone remember a jigsaw called Impossipuzzle ?
The idea being it was of only one item repeated lots of times over. . . . they had a Smarties one . . .

They also had one jigsaw made up of only Baked Beans and I have always thought that a t-shirt similar to that would look good, in lycra,
. . . . erm, on a girl really if I am honest . .. but anyway . . . . that is a design I would love to see in reality.

Maybe it could be worn with a matching beanie hat ? :D
Who ate all the pies ? What a waste of pie !

I got a t-shirt from Primark which states in large letters:
Pie & Mash
I wear it quite a lot, some people know it's a suggestion, others just think it's a food related shirt. They also did one with Fish & Chips written on it.
Sploshy Haiku
Please pie me mistress,
Pour custard over my head,
Then pie me some more.

I suggest a large text "Mess With Me" logo, with "...and you might enjoy it" in smaller text undeneath.

That, or a "Think You Can Mess With Me?" in large text with "...You're darned right" in smaller text underneath.

Well, those or a simple "Wanna Mess With Me?"

Reasonably oblique, but good enough for a "starter for 10" should the conversational chance arise...
It wasn't that long ago that I'd punch someone in the face when they pissed me off; now I just delete them from Facebook - that'll show the mother-fuckers...

Given my propensity for wearing (erm, how shall I put this?) distinctive t-shirts I would certainly be up for a splosh/wam related tshirt.

I agree with what Helen says about having them mass produced though, unless you sell a shedload the returns are poor. The tshirt transfer thread seems a good idea as we have a lot of creative types around here and getting the creative juices flowing (stop it now, you dirty minded individual     ) could bring some spectacular results. Tips on what software to use, how to use it and where to get the trasfer paper from would also be useful.

P.S. Easy as in lycra?
For the love of god no. :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:
