Unofficial record attempt

I mentioned this idea off the cuff in the thread regarding Paul O'Grady's crummy record gunging effort, but the more I think about it the more I like it.

The idea is an unofficial record attempt at the most people gunged simultaneously by setting a date and time (or during a 12/24 hour period if timezones are too much of a problem) and getting people taking part to arrange their own gungings at that time, with some sort of evidence (a form signed by witnesses and/or a photo/vid/hologromattic rendering stored in an R2 unit) that is then collated at a central website as a record of the event. It's not scientific and Guiness probably won't be interested, but doing it in the right spirit could be a lot of fun.

I'd be willing to help make it happen if there's interest, and having Bill, Hayley and the Splosh! name on board would help a lot when publicising the event.

A large group event would be better. Getting hundreds of people together to gunge each other.

Problem is, as mentioned in the other thread, such an event would need a big venue, shit loads of public liability insurance, someone to clean up and so forth - this is pretty much why it hasn't been done properly already. The health and safety logistics alone would be a nightmare.
Making it more spread out and anarchic however is much more doable - sort of a hands across the water thing.

Just seen this. Been at the doctors getting custard etc syringed out of my left ear.

Absolutely impossible to do a big meet as Brighton has just found trying to organise a custard pie world record attempt. That too got axed on H&S grounds. I like the idea of a Gunge Night though. Perhaps we could even do a Yahoo conference thingy at the same time. If we had a webcam I could even give you my Terry Wogan impression as results come in!

I doubt Guinness would recognise it as they couldn't have officials at every gunge venue. But does that matter?

We'd be happy to help though would rather wait until after D Day (D for download) which we hope will be very soon.

Wam across the world? I am sure we'd all be game for that, obvioiusly wouldn't get recognised but that isn't the point, it is setting the bar if ever someone does make a massive meet possible.
