Nottingham meet?

Postby glove-n-pie » 07 Feb 2008, 10:38

How about a meeting in nottingham?

I'm thinking about the saturday the 5th of april, in the pit and pendulum. The venue is a gothic themed pub gets some goths and alternatives in there, they are quite friendly in there as the local BDSM group meet in there also (different day)

Anyone interested?

Cheers.

Hmm, tempting! Have been in there before, I've a mate lives in Nottingham, and it's only two hours down the road from Leeds. Great pub, it's part of a chain, there's also one in Edinburgh and several in London.

Nottingham would be far better for me, hence why I posted, otherwise I'd have to think of a reason why I had to go to leeds on me own. (the missus don't know you see).

Cheers.

You would need to find a suitable location, hotels for people, directions etc. Are you willing to host a Notts meet.

Meet

Nottingham is good for me and so is the venue although it can get very busy in the evening. Mind you, so can any pub in a city centre.

Friendly pub will do, start mid afternoon :D, hotels generic list of travel lodges and holidays inns in the city, if people want to stay somewhere I always find it better to shop around yourself. Directions are not a problem. :D

TBH I'm not so sure about the 'friendly pub will do' bit. The thing that makes a Splunch different is that it's held in a private room, not the public bar. Open pub meets tend to be rather different in feel.

Also, it can help people from out of town to suggest some decent, cheap, local options for accomodation, etc. The chain-hotel websites are OK, but nothing beats a bit of local knowledge.

I used to attend munches for the LND BDSM group at the Pit and Pendulum, there was never any issues, people would talk about what ever they want. Personally I dislike gatherings in private rooms, it has an odd feel to it. I feel that you get regarded differently by the locals of that pub who seem to watch people go in and out of the room.

Also I have no idea what good cheap accommodation is in Nottingham. I don't use it, I have a nice flat  When I go anywhere, should it be organised by someone else, I always check out local b&bs and small hotels first looking for something nice and reasonable. The last time I went to another forums event, one of the hotels listed was cheap and a total dump. I would not have listed it as an option, it was dirty, very dirty, insect powder behind every piece of furniture, bathroom was black, one room had no window!!!!!.

Sorry to seem to rant there. It's just from my experience I find it better to shop around and prefer to be in the open.

Cheers.

I've replied to the Leeds splunch thread and now just noticed this one too - the same comments apply.

There are around two dozen people currently subscribing to UK Regional WAM e-mail group no 5 (midlands) which exists specifically to deliver a message to their inboxes every six months reminding them to get together for a pint and a chat about WAM. The next automatically-generated e-mail reminder will be delivered to their inboxes a month before the scheduled get-together date of the afternoon of the 3rd Saturday in July (19th). If you're organising something anyway, then you're welcome to subscribe and announce it to everyone on there, which should increase your chance of success.

Other groups' automatically-generated reminder dates include area 3 (North east) for the afternoon of the 3rd Sat in May (17th) which may or may not be taken up by Miss Helen and area 2 (North West) which will be in Warrington on the afternoon of the 3rd Sat in April (19th). That's quite close, timewise, to your originally proposed date but probably sufficiently far away, geographically, not to matter (although the north west corner of area 5 is actually closer to Warrington than it is to Nottingham, ironically enough).
