do we have a IRC Channel by any chance?

Just wondering as I thought it would be quite cool to have a chat hub as well as the forum.

Cheers.

We can set up a chatroom any time you like.

Chances are it would work best if people met by prior arrangement cos I can't see many being there at the same time spontaneously but who knows?

I know we've asked before, but what is the current view on us having one?

must admit i dont that amount of time to go into chatrooms but when i do must admit its fun chattin to like minded people and exchanging ideas etc, plus anything else.

I do use the opposition chat room and must admit unless the chatters there who also use this site/forum use a different username to on here there are very few people from here who use it so on that basis perhaps it would be good to have a Splosh Chat as well.

Won't it be a good idea, because the most here are from the same timezone (maybe one or two hours different) , to open the chatroom only in the evening? That would make it for everybody much easier to meet :?:

I don't understand chatrooms and am scared to venture into one :( . If it is speech based, I don't have the facilities on my pc at the moment and if it requires typing I would get left behind because I can't type fast enough.

I am very meticulous with grammar and spelling so I never use 'textspeak'. My answer would be 'no' I would never use it. :(

In honesty I am not sure there is a big demand for another chatroom at the moment.

There are two main ones I use, one on the UMD and the other being WamChat.

WamChat even has several rooms you can go to on it's menu for the chatroom. You can even create a room.
I hope that doesn't sound like an advert for one over the other or even in response to the OP on this thread.

Both seem to have there peaks and troughs in terms of users and having another chatroom would not necesarily be better, in my opinion. WamChat seem popular and is busy in the evenings often, I don't often go in the UMD chatroom these days but did bump into Cede there last night !

There may even be WAM chatrooms out there knee high in cyberdust and collecting cybercobwebs in the virtual nooks, crannies and corners with spindly cyberspiders waiting forlornly . . . ' ( and so on for another 1,000 words or more ).

In short, no, not yet.

Hayley hosted a night using yahoo, now that was a right laugh. Though it does need to done on a certain date. I think this would be the way to go for the time being, as last time it was something diffrent and fresh.

Maybe that is a great idea! To organise a yahoo-sleeping-party :D

I am very much aware that UMD and WAMchat have cornered the chatroom market, and it is certainly not our intention to try and compete with existing services (nor has it ever been). I just wonder if there is a need for a place where people on this forum can go and chat if they like, probably pre-arranged, rather than use IM. If everyone is happy as things are (the threads often turn into chats which is good) and we have the occasional Yahoo party, I am okay with that. I am certainly not trying to build up some kind of cyber empire where we have to have a finger in every custard pie.

So carry on letting us know what you think.

I would use a chat room if you set one up.
I have used the other ones you mentioned
but usually finish up talking to someone across the pond

I'd much rather talk to the pals i have made in Splosh-land.

And it would be great to have a pre arranged night with special 'guests' like Julie the clown or Hales taking charge of proceedings.

I think the power of Splosh is, that this board is very informal, it feels like one big family (even I joined just from this week :!: ) and this board feels more friendly, more like the English way I suppose? But I don't wanna bring to other sites down!

BUT AMEN TO SPLOSH!
