A few weeks ago we had another reference to stocks when what in fact was used was a pillory. Unable to get to sleep one night I imagined how some real stocks could be created, and in the morning was eager to try to make some using some scrap wood from the garage. I did spend a little on paint. Although you will be able to see I am no carpenter, the results are encouraging, with my example photographed on the village green.
The stocks may be made out of 1”ish plywood shelving or deal, 5.5“ for the sides, 4“ for the leg pieces. The side pieces are 42” long ; the leg pieces and seat 36”. The seat can slide forward and back to accommodate sixfooters like me as well as shorter people. The whole slots together in a minute and can easily be carried under one arm to the party.
The leg holes are 4”, and as far apart as possible. The top piece can be lifted off in case your partner dies of excitement (the original would have had a padlock). You could easily make the whole thing wider to accommodate two people, as was often the case with original stocks.
So here is an instrument which I think is more appropriate to sploshing than a pillory and much easier to construct. All we need now is a pretty volunteer. Or some fantasies on whom you would put in and what you would do to them.

Just an idea would'nt varnish help the clean up process as the gunge might start to wash the paint off?

Excellent work, can't wait to see them in action!
You could go into business on the side making things like that, I've seen shoddier stocks selling for ridiculous sums of money. The fact that it all packs flat is a huge selling point too, and not just to fetish folk - that is a key feature that magicians look for in show props and illusions (another of my passions).
In fact you've got me thinking now about illusions and escapes I could do using something like that.. would you be willing to discuss your building plans with me?

In answer to Beatrice, yes. If I were in business I would produce them in deal, nicely stained and varnished, but I was in too much of a hurry to share my idea. I did not even pick the toadstools growing in the corner of the picture.
And thank you Miss Helen for your support! It occurs to me they could be made more portable if the seat were either narrower or made in two parts so it would all fit in a narrow bag or sack. I doubt if there is anything here I could patent and thus make my fortune, so feel free to go into production! I should think it's all pretty obvious and I have given the main dimensions, but if anyone has any more questions, ask away!

I am sure Bill would love a set. We have the vast pillory as you know but however you adjust it it is the wrong height for photography/video when in 'stocks' mode.
I am sure he would buy one off you - and varnish it himself if necessary!

In view of the response I shall have to see what a sensible cost would be, next time I'm in the DIY shop.

I think it would be a good idea to also add a hole for the head, so the person would have their head and hands in the stocks. You could pie them and they wouldn't be able to dodge it, or to block anything with their hands, or wipe anything off.

That would make it a pillory!

Stocks are a contraption to hold the feet of a sitting victim. They do not get in the way of body gunging, and they are quite comfotable to sit in. Let us have no more confusion, or you will be pilloried. Sam Whiplash's are well crafted, but what are the four holes for? Has she four legs or is she a contortionist?

"She" would most certainly not be the one in them!!!!! lol
They are used in a seated position. Sat on ass, knees bent somewhat - outer holes are for the ankles, and the inner holes are for the wrists. Total captivity.
These ones are perfect for grabbing your captive and hauling them from an upright seated position - to flat on their back with their arms and legs in the air.
