hello all!

Living in the uk, it can be kind of expensive to do a lot of wamming, especially if you like large quantities.

Has anyone here tried using a cash and carry like bookers? A lot of them won't allow you to open an account without a business number - if this is the case for ones you visit, do you have your own cards, or borrow from someone you know?

I use Bookers and live in Scotland.
I run a shop so I have a legit. reason for using them.

I'm note sure what kinda checks they carry out now before allowng you an account, but you could try telling them you are going to run a B&B or a similar small bsiness. Then you would find out if they require bank verifiation etc.
Just going in with a business card would not work.

Don't you guys have public "foodservice" or other warehouse type stores? Stateside we have several chains (Costco, Sams Club, Gordon Food Service, and a couple I can't think of) who are either foodservice supply stores who sell to the public or warehouse type stores that sell both super-large sizes (10lb kegs of catsup) as well as the bulk packaged boxes of food (IE 10 bottles of normal sized catsup instead of sending it to tescos and having them sell each bottle seperately).

Alas, I haven't seen any around, aside from maybe Makro - there isn't one near here though, not without a length roadtrip!

Bookers mention needing a 9 digit business number before you can set up an account with them, which leaves me kinda stuck - therein lies the problem

Mrs C. has a Makro card through her work - but we don't really use big quantities in our sessions, so we buy from normal supermarkets. She seems to think that you only need a bussiness card or letterhead... the name of her company is is miss-spelt on the card, so I don't think they check very closely...

I seem to think that a chap at the place I used to work set up a Makro account in the name of a non-existant company a few years ago... don't know if anythings changed...

I get the inpression that setting youself up as a 'cash and carry' has more to do with being able to open longer hours than only dealing with legitimate bussinesses...

We use Bookers all the time.

You don't need to have an account, you can have a Day Pass so long as you bring in 'proof' that you have your own business (headed notepaper, bank statement etc). This allows you to use the C&C for that day only and then hand in the card at the end. Next visit you do exactly the same.

It's either that or, as Bill also does, bribe your local pub landlady (by drinking lots of her beer) and get her to go for you!
