Yes sir indeedy

I can vouch for the staining ability of poster paint. It simply washed away from the bath but wouldn't shift from the cotton pyjamas!

You could also use poster paint and/or food colouring in combination with something like wallpaper paste to make a gloopy and staining substance.

Thick black mud the consistency of porrige/pudding but soft and gooey. Nothing feels better.

I'm sure we all have our own fave, the answer is what ever you feel best with, although trying everything first is a bonus.
remember, you can't say you don't like it till you try it.

Oh and the BEST substance to get messy in..

Your skin. Clothes may be fun but nothing compared to the first time you sit naked in a big bowl of [insert substance of choice] and feel it slowly ooze up your arsecrack. You'll go :? 8) :P

Hmm, bearing in mind our respective usernames, it might be surprising that I disagree with you regarding the clothes issue!

For sploshing purposes, in my opinion, clothes are absolutely necessary whereas for regular swimming, sunbathing, etc, they are totally superfluous. :)

Well OK, if you're doing some self made wam with, uhhh, lemonaide and brownies, then yes it has to be clothed. There'd be no fun going squirt squirt right down onto the floor.

Plus, how'd it go squisssh when you sit down?

Oh dear what have I posted

Hows about putting 6 unbroken eggs down the back of your pants / knickers
and walking around town for half an hour.
When you get home you are sure to need a sit down!

A man after my own heart!

A lot of good suggestions above. I normally try to avoid staining the clothes, but one thing I did notice was bananas. Unbelievable, but rubbing them on the clothes - eg a tee shirt in certain strategic areas - leaves a large dark stain. For more effect, combine with coffee and let dry. Doesn't wash out.

For some reason I just love doing this as well, its great outdoor shoots are superb esp mud, it just seems to stain the clothes, no matter what you do.
