Joseph Barbera has died, i know it's off topic, but so many of us spoke of the hanna-barbera cartoons in other threads i thought it fitting, plus i know Bill is a HUGE fan. I'm also known for not getting the theme tunes out of my head!




Joseph Barbera, one half of the team behind such cartoon classics as The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo and Huckleberry Hound, has died, aged 95.

He died of natural causes at home with his wife, Sheila, at his side.

With William Hanna, Barbera founded Hanna-Barbera in the 1950s, after the pair had earlier worked on the Tom and Jerry cartoons at MGM studios.

"Joe will live on through his work," said Warner Brothers chairman and chief executive Barry Meyer.

"The characters he created with his late partner, William Hanna, are not only animated superstars but also a very beloved part of American pop culture," Mr Meyer said.

A very sad day indeed.

I for one shall be raising a glass to him tonight.

They should play all his theme tunes at the funeral.

Was bought up on this great mans cartoons its a sad day indeed there will never be another like him .

Wow - 95 years old. That's a full old life he led. To be honest, I thought Hannah and Barbera were already long dead - simply because it seems their cartoons have been around forever.

I was really saddened when Charles Schulz (Peanuts) died, I'll be gutted when the time comes for smiling Stan Lee (Marvel comics) to go ... and Joseph Barbera is another sad loss.

When people like this die, it always feels like a bit of your childhood dying. The nice thing is that they live on as legends through the cartoons they made. Most of Joseph Barbera's characters are still as popular now as when I sat in front of the TV after school watching Huckleberry Hound and Scooby Doo. There's even a 'Hannah Barbera Land' section to the King's Dominion theme park in West Virgina (you can walk through Yogi Bear's cave).

Rest In Peace. I grew up on Scooby Doo - nothing produced nowadays can match it, IMO!

Sounds very cliched I know, but his work/creations did bring millions joy... What a wonderful legacy to leave.

There is an irony that Warner Bros now own the Hanna-Barbera back catalogue but it is great that his stuff lives on. It would be great if the WAM stuff does the same (not that I am comparing us to their massive output).

This is going to sound really daft but he made going to the dentist easier.
They had a telly in the waiting room that showed from a vcr cartoons.
The kids loved, I loved and so did many others.
A young mum told me once that her kids loved going to the dentist, unlike her sisters kids, no cartoons.
Sadly in recent years they've stopped doing cartoons and now show day time telly.
It had something to do with copyright and public viewing my dentist told me or something along those lines.
So thank you for making my trips to the dentist more pleasurable.

I recently went to the doctors for a check-up and being an afternoon the waiting room was full of teenage single mums and their babies. The receptionist turned on the CD player to keep them from being impatient and what did it play? "Oops I Did it Again!"
