I've had some good results with corn flour gunge too. I used to do it on the hob where I could keep an eye on it as it suddenly goes from wattery thin to too thick but I know several people who do theirs in the micro and take it out and stir every 3 sec when they know it's getting there. The secret with corn flour gunge is to take it off the hob when it's getting close and let the heat already in it finish it off.
