Well said Claymore.

I actually learnt to drive HGV'S on a double de-clutch vehicle non-syncro, truth is it was what we called in "The Job" Dennis Rolls.
Basically it was a petrol engined de-tuned Rolls Royce engine to run on the cheapest crap petrol available yet get you there as fast as possible. Here i might add as i just noticed i havnt said what it was , It was a Fire Appliance (or Engine as everybody likes to say)

Now once you have learnt to drive one of these monsters at speed in and out of traffic at ridiculous speeds double de-clutching etc you can drive anything.
What i would say is they were great to drive even with the off-set steering wheel, you used the engine and gears as brakes and could whip round corners and roundabouts with tyres howling and be safe as houses.

When the Brigades started modernising and the semi and full automatics that are used today started arriving driving was never the same and you just could not maintain the speed with the deisels, in the end i found myself using the auto shift like a manual, didnt do the boxes any good though, blew at least 2 up lol. Brigade workshops loved me

Oh this wind you trainys up I have vids from all sorts of Engine's due to the fact I use to supply the equipment for the maintenance, Claymore dont get me started on the state of the railways or lack of funds from the goverment.

I use to ask for favours and give them the camera. I am so sad I've even been on the test trains, after track re-laying (all work related of course!!)

The Mallard basically I fast giant kettle, was it more or do steam trains just seem bettter, exept they can't do 130 mph!!!!

Andy

Andy

Considering the year Mallard very nearly reached that speed in Lincolnshire on her Historic Run, I wonder how many people know she very nearly failed with wheel bearings on the point of disintegrating from the heat friction

My favourite A4 has always been Bittern, i was around 12 years old i believe when i saw her come thundering through Hornsey on an UP Express at full power and believe me you can keep all your deisels and electric loco's, These were REAL engines and needed a REAL crew to drive them

The machine on the left is basically what i learnt on. That ladder over the rear wheels incidently weighed in at just over one & half tons behind the axle great on a wet day lol

I have no idea what all you modern music people are talking about. My own musical tastes are for Sibelius, Satie and Chopin amongst others.
So I'm starting a new thread about Steam engines.

Richard. :)

arghhhhhh sifting through the bus and train stuff in the middle of the music conversation threw me off.

Speaking of samples and such, Mike Pattons new album "Peeping Tom" is amazing, with lots of samples and remixed stuff, but then i'd have his babies anyday.

Rar.

Even I do.

Didn't he used to chew Oxygum to help him breathe underwater?

I think we should start a cartoon character Splosh fantasy League! I reckon Jessica Rabbit from Roger Rabbit and Daphne from Scooby Do are dead certs.

Sorry this deserves a new thread...

Thinking about cover versions...

Carter USM did some excellent and original covers in the 90s:

Panic
The Impossible Dream
Trouble
Rent
Bedsitter
This is how it Feel

They're all very different from the original recordings.

Quite right Hayley, Marine Boy did chew Oxygum to breath underwater.

I can't remember what his mermaid girlfriend was called, anybody know?

Best of the current cartoon characters? Spongebob Squarepants without a doubt. Even better than The Simpsons!

Fantasy League.....how about Betty Boop? Olive Oyl needs a good pieing, right in the gob to stop that awful whine of hers.
