Looks like this one isn't getting off the ground which is a shame for me as I was going to combine it with some fun in Sheffield.

Do need to get away from St Len's right now but it's an expensive way to meet one person in the pub!

I've just found out I can't go :( I've got a family thing that I can't get out of unfortunately! It's a real shame because the last one was really good and it would have been great to meet THE Bill Shipton! :)

Hi

After all you've done for us, I would love to meet you and buy you a drink, Pup. Just seems like it won't be this time. Soon I hope. Need to get away more.

Bill

I was oringinally interested in going being a northerner yet there was a gap in the thread with no activity from Sept 23rd to Oct 2nd and I wasn't sure if it was still going ahead. Even though the thread has re-started there doesn't seem to be that many going so I'll pass on this one. May be next time if its constantly well promoted it will fare much better :D

At the moment there is more chance of me traveling 250 miles to London where they have a rocking wam party atmosphere (going off the last set of pics) rather than travel 55 miles to sit in a pub with 2 or 3 people.

People have asked if I'll do one the answer at the mo is no. I just have too much too do. I am more than happy (if the store pays for it) to bring the girls to either London or Bristol, as they would enjoy a weekend away.

The problem with Warrington is promoting it. I dont want to take over, though if the meets is run like this it will never take off.

Like you say I think a lot of people are just too busy to organise this at the moment, Claymore does a great job with the logistics but I think a few more of us maybe need to do a bit more.

What do you reckon would help get interest up or improve things?

Andy it would be great if you could have helped promote the meet as you would be good at that. Its understandable that you are too busy as you contribute loads in the way of pics and vids to this forum anyway. Its ok setting a date but something like this has to be promoted and originally having the likes of Bill and Candy willing to go would have made a good start. Organisers need to do continued roll calls and have something to draw people along. Andy, if you bought some models to the next one that in itself would have the "bums on seats" factor.

I miss being so far from London and Bristol as those seem to be the best organised meets. Can't the organisers get the London guys to help promote the Warrington ones?

Hi all,

Sorry about the 'radio silence' just recently but I've been getting absolutely battered by external events in the 'real world', so to speak, which have totally zapped my time and meant that I've had no time at all for 'play'.

I just logged on (and you can tell how bad things have been by the time of this post!) to say that I was hoping to meet as many as possible of you on Saturday. (I can't see who has said they'll be coming from page 1 of this thread as there seems to be a bug which prevents anything more than the original post showing (with thumbnail size maps instead of the full size ones, too)).

The problems with UMD a month ago meant that the announcement there didn't get made sticky, as it used to do. However, I did manage to get it listed on the munches page of the Informed Consent site, which also caters for some 'outgoing types' who splosh, so we may get some from there too. (We did last time!)

So, is anyone else coming or shall we kill it for this occasion and try again for the 3rd Sat in April? Opinions please a.s.a.p. as I'll need to circulate notice to that effect if we're killing it.

Incidentally, regarding the promotion of the event by others, I'd greatly welcome that! I don't want people to feel that I "own" the event - it's there for all of us - but I do try to get it started with the initial announcement. I don't want you to feel that you can't have an event just because I'm not bouncing around on the touchline - feel free to meet irrespective of my circumstances! (I had assumed that those who've been before and were interested in coming again would have been keeping a bit of banter going to keep the thread up in the eyeline while I've been buried by other activities but that might have been a rash assumption! LoL. Perhaps we could all try to do that next time to give me a bit of a helping hand - I'd appreciate it!

OK. Thanks for the offer - I'll be looking for help from anyone for the 3rd Sat in April splunch - we need to keep things spinning along more, on the various fora, than I was able to do on my own this time!

Any more opinions on whether we should just kill this one on Saturday? Sounds like it's going that way.

I'd say kill it too. In this day and age where most meets are making double figures it could undermine the success of future meet ups if you only had a handful come to this one.

May be for next time even before you advertise it you could arrange a date via pm when splosh type celebs are free. The likes of Bill, Candy, Andy for example. Then include those "probable" attendees in your launch message. Then promote it every week thereafter with ongoing roll calls etc adding and removing names when people confirm or have to pull due to unforseen circumstances. You should easily hit double figures then in a roll call at least and then the meet should have enough turn up on the day to make it a success.

Hi

Sorry but I have cancelled my journey up to Warrington. I was indeed looking forward to this trip but it looked like a lot of the people in the area couldn't make it so I will wait till the next one.

By chance Mike Nomic rang me the other night about something completely different and the matter of organising meets came up. I don't think it is necessarily a case of having 'celebs' there (I certainly don't think people would come to meet me - as this one has proved!), a munch can work just as well without them, and Mike invites them without telling anyone they are coming (witness Sammy last time in Bristol)! However promotion is everything. It isn't good enough to pick a date and tell people to come. Whoever does it needs to keep on promoting it over and over cos otherwise people (already nervous) get the impression they might be the only ones there.

The London meets (for example) do well through their relentless posting prior to the event (amongst other things) which might make for a dull thread on the forum for people who know they can't come but it does get other people to turn up.

Also perhaps before announcing the date, some behind-the-scenes work can be done to find out if the date is convenient for a number of people - preferably enough to avoid cancellation.

I know this makes it more work, but organising anything is harder work than it seems.

Bill
(going to see his Mum and Dad instead, unforunately)
