That might be down to me Bill, as I thought you oversaw the messy shoots and from their moved on to start your own mag. It seemed the logical thing to do.

Then again, working their anyhow, must have been mad as cheese.....

Splosh! started in 1989 so was way before these pictures appeared in either Razzle or Escort.

I was paid to go in to Paul Raymond one day a week and write what I was told. Initially this was all the funny bits for Club Internatonal, then when they decided they wanted to do that themselves I got to write girl copy for them and most of Razzle. It is no secret that I was Bendy Wendy! By the end of my time I was the one coming up with the ideas for romps and giving them to the photographers (usually Nick Gurgel) and then writing all the copy that went with it, headlines, coverlines etc. Splosh! was already going by the time I did this.

I didn't write for Escort cos they had a similar tame freelance called Gerald (who was Daphne Hugeglands for a while) and he was a mate so we didn't piss on each others' chips. However I do know that the lady in the white stockings is the fabulous Karen Partington.

The reason many of the Razzle models came and worked for Splosh! wasn't down to my meeting them there. It was word of mouth. Louise Hodges (who I'd met at Mayfair) worked with us and spread the word about how much fun we had so they started ringing me to come and join in.

I know tis isn't interesting but I thought I'd better set the record straight.

Actually, I find it quite interesting ... reading about the history of that sort of thing.

I find it interesing too.
If only coz I was buying the mags what you wrote and really did believe all of the stories - honest guv.

I think this kinda stuff should be written down somewhere for the record.

Howsabout a wee biography, Bill?

I bet you could tell a few tales (names changed etc.)
I think sex is better than logic
but I can't prove it.

I knew about the Bendy Wendy story from one of the shows at London, I have never laughed while drinking a brew, though I did on that day.

It went something like Mark, who plays doctor fondle commented.

'Cor isn't Bendy Wendy fit, and the things she write's are well horny.'

At that point Bill turned round, and laughed outloud, followed by 'I am actually Bendy Wendy' hence my giggling in my own Brew!!!!

Though it now explains why the girls where so up for it, if they saw it as a release/giggle. It explains why they wanted to come across to splosh to have a go.

Shame Karen left modelling though I understand why, I know she's now married and does something like interior design........

I agree with everybody, I find it well interesting.

My God, now you are asking for it!

I seriously have thought of writing the Life and Slimes of Bill Shipton cos it has been a bizarre life with lots of very funny stories (from the pomposity of Mayfair and its vintage car features to pun-and-profanity-packed Razzle Romps). Perhaps I should start it here! I warn you, it could turn into a long one. As the poor gits who have interviewed me know, I can go on a bit.

Incidentally, whilst on (what the editor of Mayfair would call) 'downmarket' magazines like Razzle and Escort almost everything was made up (though most of the letters to Bendy Wendy were real - and wonderfully odd), most of Mayfair was genuine. More than half the girl copy (the words accompanying the models) were true stories there - fake ones only being used when the girls were so stupid they couldn't talk or only spoke fluent Swedish. Likewise more than 50 per cent of Mayfair letters were real. Even the jokes came from readers - though I did write limericks to fit the drawings for eight years! It stood me in good stead. My joke book (with limericks) can still be bought in Ann Summers, I believe.

Ironically the only bit of Mayfair regularly made up was the bit that claimed to be true! Quest - the Laboratory of Human Response was complete bollocks written by the staff for 50 quid a time!
