Their is a down side to chat rooms, people logging on and then saying nothing...... This does happen quite regular on some chat rooms. I dont mind them personally, though they are quite or you get bombaded.....

If we had a chatroom, I still think it would be best used to arrange to meet people in - that is, not go there expecting to find somebody, but make an arranged date with people. For instance I could say: "Will be in the room from 7pm-9pm Thurs if anyone wants a chat" just like a pub. As you say, otherwise they are empty all the time...

Now that is a good idea, nice one Hayley, that way you could deffo get to chat to people, also guests pop ins from people such as Dolly etc.
