Nice ones Julie. I have seen the Crackerjack one before (In fact I saw it when it was first broadcast :D ) but the first one is new to me. Have you any idea who the young lady who sat in the pie was? Was she a regular stooge for the Cairoli troupe or an extra plucked from the 'chorus line'?

I am sure we all welcome Kent1 to Splosh and look forward to their contributions.
I'd really love to know what is being said, so any chance of someone translating the comments for us who left skool with an empty crisp packet and a furry toy?

Hi

Usually it is variations on "I like the pictures". This time it is "I like the pictures and there aren't many people in France who like WAM which is a shame".

I can usually cope with the French, sometimes need a dictionary though. It's the so called English in some of the posts with which I have trouble.

Hi Julie

Thank you for making me laugh despite being back at work and having a disgusting cold (which Bill has got as well - we blame the new year kissing in the pub). What would Babel make of well-loved sploshing phrases, I wonder?

Also big thanks for the reminder of the wonderful Claudi. Bill has this clip too and I love it. I think it's the patient way she sits there being decorated that I particularly like - and, of course, the big orange hair! And all set to an instrumental version of "I'm in the Mood for Dancing" if I remember right!

Thanks once again

Thanks for the Babelfish link Julie, wouldn't it be useful if we all had a babelfish to put in our ear.
I've always had great fun trying to translate words & phrases between languages and seeing what comes out in the end. - Sad or what?

Seeing as the pics are taken from video captures is there any chance of getting hold of the actual clips themselves ?

I remember seeing both when originally broadcast so would love to see them again both from a nostalgia point of view as well as the favoured sploshing one.

Babelfish translator

Postby Richard » 01 Feb 2007, 01:09

Has anybody else tried Babelfish? I followed Julie's link and installed the Altavista toolbar; it worked fine until it recently disappeared from my computer desktop. I thought I must have done something stupid and accidentally deleted it so I found this thread again and tried to download it again. Got the message "The website is not available" or some such wording! Anyone else had the same experience?
