Normally you wouldn't notice, but when the picture is rotated it goes from being stretched lengthways, to being stretched widthways, it becomes really obvious. The software you are using to rotate is not at fault, it is your monitor and graphics card. If you can't solve this problem, just rotate them in windows / irfanview / photoshop or whatever, and trust that on everyone else's PC's they will look normal.
I'll PM you with my email address and sort you out some instructions on setting the monitor resolution correctly - it may involve a few tweeks of your graphics card.
