It's not that I'm unsympathetic to your frustration and disappointment because I feel terrible for letting people down and understand that people are out of pocket.

I tried to contact as many people from the moment I knew so that those that could cancel and make other plans would have time to do so, I don't see how I could of done more?

Sorry again, I really can't help the situation.

Sorry, Bill, I have to agree with Smiler on this one. I would also like to know where the venue is / was. There isn't that much just around the corner from Moor Street where you could hold an event like this.

I know it comes across as me being sceptical but someone with 10 posts, all in this thread, new to the forum, into sploshing but never been on here before?
I could be wrong but it hasn't done their reputation any good.

I think that's being a bit harsh. By that token, nobody new could ever advertise anything on this site that they are doing. A lot of fetish clubs are taking up sploshing and the organisers are unlikely to join in threads other than their own (like a lot of the WAM sites who advertise here!). Are they all to be mistrusted?

I am well aware of the fantasists on forums who claim they are organising sessions/events etc but it seems a bit unfair to make that assumption and then post it as fact (not even an opinion in the original case) when something goes wrong. Now people are even disputing the venue exists! Of course any first time advertised event could be cancelled (for whatever reason) or go ahead but be crap, surely it is up to the individuals booking to decide whether it's worth the risk, not up to others to tell them nobody outside of their close circle is to be trusted.

I am disappointed that this event is not going ahead and I appreciate the other comments on this thread, but with all the aircraft that are grounded due to the ash, I think we should give Dirty_Soho the benefit of the doubt.

Working for an airline myself, I know that we have people and planes all over the place and a lot of disgruntled passengers both in the UK and abroad wanting to get to destinations and come home.

There is some good news from the ash though... I have a had quiet day today as all the front line staff that would normally contact me (as I am in back office support role, off airport) have been busy dealing with passengers and have not needed my support!!! Guess I will get a double load when it gets back to normal!!!!

Bill if you’d organized an event at Splosh and were in Scotland with aircraft grounded wouldn’t you either find another way to get back or ask the other people involved in running the event to assist you? If the boot was on the other foot and the organizers had put this event on but the customers hadn’t turned up wouldn’t there be a lot of anger at them? I do believe the venue was genuine and that the event was genuine but it is more than disappointing that no contingency plans were made. I don’t think Smiley was too harsh just very irate.

@Jar, it was me that was being harsh, I was typing out of frustration and anger and I shouldn't have done. I should have taken a step back and thought about it before I posted.

I apologise for any offence taken.

I agree there was intent to hold the event and I agree the flight was grounded. So no problems there, so therefore if Dirty_Soho was to re organize a new event I would believe this was taking place.

What I don’t agree with is cancelling an event one day before it's due. I received the text about 9am this morning, I would assume if the event is kicking off at 8pm the following day that there would still be time to travel back via the train who estimates an average journey time of 10 hours. Or a coach, likewise on times.

Yes I agree I was a little over the top on my first post but im sure others would be frustrated if you booked time off work, paid for hotel and train tickets with your partner only for it to be cancelled.

The other blow is this is one of the biggest weekends in recent times with so much going on, so to pick an event which is no longer going ahead knowing there are three others going on is a bit of a gut wrencher.

Maybe this situation can be a learning experience for Dirty_Soho for the next event.

Still at least we have the Birmingham Bizarre the next day http://www.brumbazaar.co.uk/

I have said my bit so ill give it a rest now.....

…I am very disappointed. :(

The inability to get a flight due to volcanic eruption is force majeure, not unprofessionalism—but cancelling a very rare event due to the inability to get down from Scotland in a perfectly reasonable 35 hours when other people are travelling similar distances is.

Alternative travel arrangements would easily have been available had you only asked for help; after all, we’re all travelling. A member of our household was very unfortunately trapped in Spain, and by coach, car, and ferry, we are getting her back in the UK for Monday night. Scotland is a piece of cake by comparison. But I left you my number well in advance, and I didn’t even get a cancellation text and so I didn’t know about this until just now.

Ask anyone, I’m a relatively pleasant guy, but I like being messed up, not messed around—and I do feel you’ve been very unprofessional here. You’re not even answering my calls. There were other events this weekend, and you’ve disappointed a lot of people.

Plans on my part have, of course, already been made. I can do some last–minute scrambling, however. I was going to pay… let’s say somewhat more than the door cover… as a show of gratitude for hosting such a rare and unique event as I know first–hand how difficult organising such a thing is, but you’ve missed out on that, and I will instead probably go shopping at the BBB. Meanwhile, the show must go on; I’m going to the fet party in Coventry that some of the rest of the household are going to.

I can still salvage the weekend therefore, so things aren’t in absolute disarray, and I’m using the hotel for the BBB, so I’ve not lost much money, but I was really looking forward to this, so I’m a bit bummed–out that it seems cancelled for what seems to me a reason that could easily have been prevented.

*sighs* But hey, these things happen.

As a show of good faith, I am perfectly willing to come to another event organised by you, and I hope it’s a blast and nothing like this happens again. (But next time, excuses will not fly; no pun intended!)

Let us know when you’re holding it.

(*ponders* Hm. I wonder if we should run some kind of event…)
