... the Muckanic, where I think they used black treacle if my memory is still working.
… and thereby hangs a tale.
I took a considerable number of stills during the shooting of this film, including a number during the scene with Rachel and Sammi doing the ‘oil change’ using black treacle for the old oil and golden syrup representing the new oil. When it had inevitably gone wrong, and they’d had their tit-for-tat session, they were stood, nearly naked, but covered in treacle and syrup in front of the car.
I got the photos developed in a one-hour franchise in the local Asda, and shortly afterwards returned one of the films and sets of prints. The member of staff then on duty was a pimply teenager who obviously knew it all. I told him that they had printed the film the wrong way round, which he said they hadn’t. I told him again that they had, and he said they couldn’t. I told him that they could, and that they had. At this point he decided to ask how I knew that they had, and I told him that I knew they had because the number plate on the car was the wrong way round … and showed him one of the prints to prove the point.

I’m told it took nearly a week to scrape the poor lad’s eyebrows off the ceiling.
