Tiswas Night 2009 - non-sexual messy event in East Midlands
Re: Tiswas Night 2009 - non-sexual messy event in East Midlands
Careful with number 3 - with this lot liking what they do, you'll probably get few donations and it'll cost you a fortune in pies! LoL! (Now, if you asked for donations to BE pied .... !)

Re: Tiswas Night 2009 - non-sexual messy event in East Midlands
I wasn't able to make it last year, so I'll make a special point of attending this year.
For fundraising, can I make a suggestion for a variation on the 'unlucky raffle' idea? Tickets could be sold at the start of the night and then during the course of events tickets could be drawn out of a hat in pairs, with the first number out of the hat becoming the gunger and the second the gungee (I guess if the same person held both tickets another ticket would be drawn). The nature of the gunge used could get progressively 'worse' as the night goes on, starting with foam pies then going up to a bucket of beans, say. This would be good way to get people to gunge someone they don't know. A variation on the above would be to draw a third then a fourth ticket out etc, with the new person gunging the person who was the gunger in the previous round - the 'chain' ends when the gunge allocated for that session has run out, at which point you are left with one clean person who is then sent to the cage.
I have mixed feelings about buying a ticket for a guaranteed visit to the cage. I'd probably buy such a ticket if offered, but it somehow doens't quite seem in keeping with the spirit of Tiswas to have the element of surprise removed.
Just my thoughts. Looking forward to the event whatever you decide to do.

Oh yes, Mouse knows Wellingborough!
BillShipton wrote:By the way, be a BIT careful with the selling DVDs idea. Even though it is a public event, strictly speaking selling DVDs is illegal unless you have got the BBFC to agree that they do not require classification. I know this is a very finicky point but you wouldn't want to get into trouble over something that small. Might be worth e-mailing them to see what they say.
Ah, good point. I've dealt with the BBFC in the past in a previous job, totally forgot about them now! Yeah, we could get away with it if we produce it as a documentary. It would fall under 'education' and wouldn't require a certificate.

1:) Could i recommend a unlucky raffle, people buy a raffle ticket on the night for someone they want to see mega gunged (maybe in beans, mushy peas ect), tickets could be set at £1 each.
2:) mucky bingo: everyone who wants to play buys a bingo ticket, who ever reaches a full house can pick a fellow player to be gunged, once again tickets could be set at something like a pound.
3:) How about a simple donation bucket where people can contribute money on the night it's self, walk around with it, failure could result in a pie in the face!
4:) A mucky auction, a willing model stands in front of the crowd and people bid against each other in order to gunge the model for them selfs. Maybe have a signed picture chucked in.
Ah, the problem with these is that by the middle-to-end of the night (with previous events) is that everyone out in the garden has ended up gunged/pied already, for nowt. Everyone knows it's gonna happen.
Not everyone gets in the Cage though, and I do hear from people who say "I didn't go in the Cage, my life's incomplete!", so a guaranteed Caging is something I feel we can sell.

Oh, on Tiswas, the Cage inhabitants had always volunteered to be in there. They got literally thousands of applications every week from adults wanting to go in the Cage. Same thing happened with Tiswas Reunited (well, we got about 60 e-mails).
The Cage can only fit 14 people in at any one time (so says LWT who made it for Reunited, seems to be about right). So not everyone gets a go in it. I think we only did about 3 Cage gungings last year.

I know the adults in the cage were volunteers and there was no shortage of them either (unsurprisingly!) but this was behind the scenes. During the show itself, the cage already had the people in it and the gungings were then spontaneous and thus had an element of surprise. Put me down for a ticket anyway

Yes, now at the Horseshoe Inn instead of the Cannon. Both are run by the same husband+wife couple.
It's also got an early-ish start time. The posters say 7:30pm, but with many pub events, they start about half an hour or even an hour later. Same thing happened last year! It gives time for the already-assembled to have a drink, and for late-comers to catch up...
For sat nav:
36 Sheep Street
Wellingborough
Northamptonshire
NN8 1BS
Here's the poster:

I had really been looking forward to this, but I'd have to take a day off work and we're too busy at the mo.
I hope that some people from this site do make it along.
I'm sure you'll all have agreat time.

We've managed to get Amy back on board as the Phantom. We're trying out Flan Your Folks from Tiswas as a game for the first time.
Pretty much everything has been sorted, even the gunge. The one remaining headache is getting people to help out with the clean-up afterwards. We'll be needing about ten volunteers to help get the garden cleaned, and as there's a jetwash available, it's not going to be a hard job. Tiswas Night was almost in jeopardy last time as hardly anyone bothered to help the landlady clean up, so in order to make sure we can keep this event for next year (so Sploshman and others can make it!), I'll be handing out a DVD of last year's event to anyone who helps out.
As soon as we've got the clean up done, we'll be heading across town to the Cannon (a sister pub to the Horseshoe) in Cannon Street, for the Tiswas Night 'after-show party', all welcome, the partying goes on until 2am!
