Mayfair

A couple of points stemming from Mayfair magazine some years ago.

The first one was a promising sounding debate on slapstick which started in the letters pages in about 1982, I think it would have been which got curiosly misplaced.

I remember a letter was written to the magazine by a girl who was, apparantly, a member of a childrens theatre group who used to get really messed up at the end of each performance and found it a turn on. All the WAM elements were in it, she loved dressing up in smart uniforms and playing the authority figure.

The reaction to the letter was amazing, the magazine was inundated with letters saying how much readers liked it and pleading for some of their models to get some mess but nothing ever came of it.

This was the first time I had ever come across mention of WAM as a fetish, anyone else remember this??

Secondly was a cartoon which was in Mayfair at about the same time, called Carrie. It was really good erotic are by a guy called Steve Kingston and featured a beautiful busty blonde girl who got her clohtes ripped off regularly and was quite often drenched and messed up as well

Again, anyone remember this as well?

Hi

I can bore you forever abut Carrie and probably will at some point. I was a freelance at Mayfair when Steve Kingston was drawing her (my favourite of the Carrie artists) and whilst I didn't write them (a guy called Brian sent in dozens of scripts), I had to write the little bit of blurb at the top (3 lines of 24 characters to explain the story with as many puns as possible!). I also had to get the artwork through the lawyer - not easy as Steve loved putting all his mates in usually with their cars and real number plates (which the lawyer to a huge dislike to!).

I am delighted there is a site dedicated to Carrie. I talked to the editor of Mayfair at the time I was there (Ken Bound) about producing a Carrie book but there were all sorts of complications about who owned the rights to the name. It is a shame cos the artwork was fantastic, and to show off for a second, I have an original Carrie strip framed in my house!

I was also there for the Sheila of Gloucester saga and spoke to her on the phone but that's another long story...

As I clicked this link, my i-tunes player randomly chose ' Carey ' by Joni Mitchell . . . of course when sung sounds just like Carrie . . . . still, could have been worse . . . it might have been something by Harry Webb . . . .

Hi-jack over ! Nice link . . . . . .

:-D

She was also one of the people that made me start Splosh! It's a long story (not all of it good about me) and I will bore you with it soon. Hayley gave me Frank Skinner's new book for Christmas, so I'm into confession...
