Nice update!

Am tempted by the beaned wedding dress (has Widgey from the UMD seen that - it'll be right up his street!), but have run into a minor issue with two sets I've just bought - where are the zip files?

I bought the set with the lass in the purple formal gown having beans thrown at her, and the one where the already muddy lass in school uniform pulls the other one into the mud. The photos are great, but I can't find any easy way of downloading the whole sets - so far I've manually downloaded about half the mud ones, not even started the bean one yet.

On my site, each update is available as a zip file (well, the most recent also has a three-file option at 400-odd mb each as a 1.4gb file takes a while to download, even on broadband!), and I kind of assumed yours would be the same.

Having to do right-click, open in new tab, 20 times, then click each tab, "save as", close tab, and repeat, for 300+ photos, isn't exactly user-friendly. I tried to set Internet Explorer to "make available offline", but that failed, and trying wget from my Unix systems didn't work either.

Downloading the videos was easy enough, and I like the bean one, nicely captured. The mud ones are a bit disapointing though, very shakey hand-held camera, made worse by being zoomed in from up on the bank - does the cameraman not go into the mud with the models to get better shots?

Overall though, nice work. I envy you your wonderful mud wallow, I'll have to be sending spies to follow you and find where that is, both for shooting and for playing in! :D

Thanks for your comments!

All I can say is:

Three sites each updating WEEKLY all for £50 for six months!!!!

Yes we don't have zip files for our pictures and we may have the odd bout of shaky camera work, particularly in unfamiliar locations, but, all in all I think we offer the best packages available in wam!

I don't think its particularly fair to compare my site management to your's!

I was thinking in terms of data handling requirements - I'm adding about 2000 images a month to a site where the members area currently amounts to almost exactly 50 gigabytes of data.

I don't have time to mess with layout, etc, so the entire thing is programmed, I've a single control script that builds galleries, makes thumbnails, generates zip files, creates the preview page - the whole lot is 100% automated, all I have to do is upload the pics and write the text for each set (which frequently takes longer than the shoots do!). I'm assuming you have something similar, so adding the commands to create zips should be fairly straightforward?

I do really like some of your work, and am tempted by the wedding dress beans set - but given how long it's taken me to download all the photos from the schoolgirl mud shoot (finally finished tonight), and how much more time It'll take to get the thrown beans one, it'll be a while before I can even think about it - and I'm very unlikely to buy anything else, it's just way too much hassle (and more importantly, takes far too much time) to d/l.

Every other major site I've ever joined or bought downloads from does zip files, Erik Elsas, Messy Fun, Wet Kahuna, Splosh - right click, "save as", leave it running for a while, whole set downloaded. Not having them really is a major inconvenience - is there any chance you can add them? Granted, they do almost double the disk space requirement, as jpeg images don't compress much, but disks are cheap, and single-file-downloads make things much easier for the customers.

My site is COMPLETELY automated!

I upload my gazzilions of pics and vids to my server with ftp!

I asssign them a date and a title, the site takes the pictures, re-sizes them, puts the logos on them and makes all my updates come on-line when they are due! Most of my sites were updated late 2006, that is when the current updates on most of them were uploaded and assigned dates etc! The site has been ticking away happily without any intervention from me for ages, all I have had to do for the sites is make the announcements and adds etc! I'm due to shoot more media this year, also to give gunjee a kick up the ass!

You are of course correct, an extra tab for zips isn't much work, but the problem is, that for me to put all my media into zip folders, I would have to do weeks more work!

Now I'm not killing the idea of zip folders I have pm'd you to ask you more about how your site generates zip folders for you!

I've replied to the PM - ta for asking! I've thought about automatic updates were a bunch of stuff is uploaded to the build area, and then auto-released every X weeks, but I tend to shoot as I go along, rather than all in one big chunk. The idea of taking a few models on holiday somewhere nice, doing a solid week of shoots and then a week off, where the trip and free week was payment for the shoots, has occured to me, but as yet I've not got round to actually doing it. The folk I work with tend to like the on-going nature of it, as a regular extra income for something they enjoy doing anyway. Perhaps in 2009!
