Hijack Big Brother - Purple Guys Pies

Postby glove-n-pie » 26 Jan 2008, 00:02

Just saw the end of part of BB (my wife watches it) and Dermot oleary was asking on of the evictees whether to send a guy in a purple suit into the house with a custard pie or a custard pie, so the guy goes in and gets on of the house mates on the shoulder and not sure what happened to other other pie.

Afterwards when it cut to the 'live' feed one of the girls was talking about it, she said when she saw what he had she ran and hid behind a chair to shield her face and if he came near her she would have... and did not finish the sentence. :x

Come on it's only a custard pie, why are people so scared of having a pie in the face????

I haven't seen any of this series despite being a fan of rubbish TV. I'm told it's too rubbish even for me.

It seems to be a common trait amongst BB contestants though that they are scared of or dislike mess. Must be an ego thing.

You've probably got it there. People go on these things because they want to be 'stars', and are thinking fo the glamourous lifestyle of real stars. But they get mixed up between the non-working social lifetyle of real stars, and being on screen. A real star is liable to spend a fair bit of their on-screen time in unhappy / dangerous / messy / confused situations, but that's 'the job', not to be confused with going to top clubs and hanging out with other stars when 'off duty'.

So these BB wannabe-stars end up trying to act 'glamourous' when they should be acting 'on the job'. Seeing them make complete prats of themselves in the process is probably part of the attraction of reality TV, though I can't really understand it myself, I've never watched, and never been even mildly curious - the whole idea sounds like ultra-cheap lowest-common-denominator junk TV to me.

I've seen bits of a couple of the shows from this series and this one is actually quite different from the other ones. The people on here are young but they are all pretty intelligent/talented/successful in their chosen areas.

I broadly agree with your points but I'm not sure whether someone who hasnt watched something can comment on it with such conviction.

I've not watched it but I've read lots about it on news sites, seen reviews, etc. I see it as part of the overall 'dumbing down' of mainstream TV in general. I'd like to see the media as a whole making more of an effort to really educate people, improving the knowledge level of the public at large - but there's more money to be made in things like BB instead.
