Mrs. Doyle is an excellent character. I've just remembered a hilarious scene with her that is possibly funnier than the Victor Meldrew scene. Damn! But I won't mention it.

Bill - spooky coincidence ... I was watching that very Father Jack scene on youtube about 10 mins before reading your post.

My guess as to why Bill doesn't like Mrs Doyle is cos the character went on to do a commercial for the Inland Revenue encouraging everyone to get their tax returns in on time ("Go on, go on, go on..." etc). Even Pauline McLynn admits it was a career mistake cos now every self employed person hates her.

Phantom, is it the scene where Mrs Doyle is trying to put decorations on the tree and keeps falling out of the window?

one of our managers was irish and looked a little bit like father jack, he hated us calling him Jack,
once a customer asked who to see for an estimate for some bodywork on his car so we pointed to the manager down the workshop and said " theres Jack, ask him"

omg we were pissing ourselves laughing as the bloke was calling out " Jack , Jack "

No not that one ... in fact I think I haven't even seen the scene you've described. I get a feeling there's still a few Father Ted episodes I've never scene (though many of them I've seen six or seven times).
