I was in a doctor's office and was looking at a People magazine from like 2002 (don't they ever replace these things?) Anyway it had an interview with Marc Summers. For those who do not know him, he was the host for the Nickelodeon shows "What would you do?" and "Doulble Dare". It showed pictures of him in his house. One caught me particularly off guard as I first glanced at it. He was on a persian rug with tasles on the end and he was neatly placing each tassle the exact same distance apart from the others and there must have been 200 of these things.
Immediately I figured out what the article was about, Marc Summers was an obsessive cumpulsive. He went on to talk about how his condition made it so extremely difficult for him to get messy on the shows, which was constantly happening to him. He didn't mind the comedy part, which the comedian part of him thrived on, but the mess really made his life difficult. He said after shows he would shower for an hour scrubbing his skin over and over and over just to try and get clean again. He menioned the hardest part was once he was doing Double Dare and was continuously being pied and couldn't clean off and had to do most of the show covered.
I actually felt sorry for the guy as he wasn't dissing the game show or the mess, he just didn't like it on himself. He mentioned Rachel, who was his assistant on both shows, did not like to get messy but it was because she didn't appreciate it as much and not because of any condition. The cast/crew of the shows didn't know about his condition and equated his discomfort to the same as Rachel and were constantly trying to find ways to get them both messy, tho he admitted Rachel was "more lucky" as most of the time her mess was off camera and she didn't have to put up an act.
I was curious about this so I went to YouTube and checked out a few What would you do clips and I think you could almost see his discomfort when a few pies would fly and he'd be too close and walk quickly away after the aftermath to another part of the stage as if to get away from it all.
In the end I have to say hats off to Marc Summers for putting up with all of this and giving us so many years of enjoyment as I grew up. It must have been extremely difficult.

Wow, thats mad, I mean we all know Sally James, however much she rocked - didnt like to get as messy as the others, she didnt have an OCD making it difficult like Marc.
Thats so strange, i too appreciate what he went through. Some people suffer for their art i guess!
