On one level, satirization of the glamour industry is part of the appeal of drag acts - girls, spend all that money and abuse your body enough and you too can look as good as... a guy dressed up in a gay bar.
A lot of the standard tricks in drag are lifted directly from the playbook of the mainstream glamour industry (particularly the bits involving sellotape), with just a few dealing with the specific problems of hiding male features. The hardest part (and the one that many trannies miss, resulting in the many walking shrines to Barbara Cartland you see) is doing all that and making it look natural.

Not everyone is aware of the irony, though. Something I noticed in the TG scene was that many of the photos I saw from professional tranny makeover places tended to be hugely overdone more often than not, I suspect because clients who pay all that money to be transformed into a beautiful women do not go looking for subtlety and think they're being ripped off if the make-up isn't applied with a trowel. It also has to be said that dodgy sexual politics (particularly from a male bias) had a big part to play in forming the female glamour ideal in the first place, and boy do they ever die hard when it comes to guys trying to become their vision of the ideal woman.

For those that don't insist on taking it all so very seriously, there is much fun to be had. Nowt wrong with a little politically incorrect fun every now and then - the important thing is not kid yourself it's anything more than it is. Some people get so wrapped up in the bullshit they forget they're meant to be having fun.

Yes, I've noticed that when stumbling about on such websites - very much the 'explosion in a flour factory' look. I was in hospital a couple of years ago and there was a nurse there like that. I remember thinking she evidently doesn't have a mirror in the house - I couldn't believe that none of her friends had mentioned it to her.

Mind you, I've seen that happen when girls I've known have been to a (supposedly) 'pro' make-up artist prior to a photo session or wedding. One of my friends had a session bought for her for her wedding morning and it was so awful, she wiped most of it off before the wedding and looked gorgeous again! What was left on was just enough to be right.
